Fabric Hammocks
If you want a taste of paradise, a fabric hammock is the perfect place! This type of hammock provides a comfortable and relaxing place to meditate, take in the beauties of nature, or just read the morning paper. For thousands of years various versions have been woven in countries such as Brazil. Many are still woven by hand today!
Types
You will find two basic types, those with and without spreader bars. Those with spreader bars tend not to envelop and conform to your body as much as those without spreader bars. Spreader bar styles, are often made of UV and weather resistant materials for use around hot-tubs and pools or for use near the beach. The choice is up to you, we warn that both styles are dangerously comfortable!
Fabrics
You may choose from a variety of options of fabrics including those made of synthetic fibers or cotton. Synthetic fabrics tend to be easier to clean than cotton. Cotton fabric tends to have a softer feel and is more durable due to the quality of the components. You will also find that some of the synthetic fabrics are made to repel water instead of absorbing it, which may be desirable when rain, humidity or water is a factor.
Comfort and Durability
A fabric hammock is one of your most durable and comfortable styles on the market today. Some believe that models without spreader bars, such as the Brazilian style are more comfortable than those with spreader bars. The choice is really yours to make. Commonly you will find fabric hammocks without spreader bars used for furniture or beds in both indoor and outdoor settings. Hammocks made of fabric tend to lend more support than mesh or rope. The close weave makes them extremely resilient and durable, an important feature for those with animals or children. Older adults often prefer this style as they are easier to get in and out compared with the open-weave styles. Keep in mind that the close weave styles allow less ventilation. For this reason, you may find yourself sticky and hot if laying out in warm weather or in direct sun. For humid climates you may want to stick with open-weave styles.
A fabric hammock provide a peaceful place to get away and enjoy the world around you. Once you have chosen the style and fabric that is right for you, you’ll be on your way to paradise! |
